Double-Sided Decals — Special Product Guide
Internal · Updated July 2026
What this article covers
Double-sided decals are a special order product — not available as a standard self-service option in Signomatic. They require a completely separate production flow and a minimum order value of SEK 5,000. All requests must be confirmed with production before quoting.
Minimum order value
The minimum order value for double-sided decals is SEK 5,000 on a single quote or order — not split across multiple deliveries. This reflects the separate production flow required. Do not quote below this threshold.
When to recommend it
Good fit when the customer needs:
- Window decals visible from both inside and outside (for example: alarm decals)
- Glass door or partition signage
- Vehicle window decals visible from both directions
- Contour-cut double-sided decals for window applications
Not a good fit when the customer needs:
- A standard opaque decal → recommend standard white or transparent decal
- A small order below SEK 5,000 → explain the minimum and offer an alternative
- Combination with prismatic reflective and bending → extremely time-intensive, always confirm with production first
How it works — technical process
- Produced on transparent material — not standard opaque/white decal.
- The design is mirrored and printed on the non-adhesive side — never on the adhesive side.
- A white layer is printed between the two sides to prevent the other side's print from showing through.
- The correct material is Madico 10650 Transparent Decal (1.4m × 100m). Orajet 3165 Transparent Decal does not work — it is too cloudy/hazy and the print cannot be seen clearly from the other side.
- Contour-cut double-sided decals are possible — cutting is done along black lines in the design.
- Can be combined with frosted laminate for window applications where a frosted look is needed — this must be specified explicitly in the order.
What to confirm before quoting
- Mounting side — will the decal be applied to the inside or outside of the glass? This determines how the design is mirrored and produced. Always confirm this explicitly.
- Frosted laminate — does the customer want a frosted finish? If yes, this must be noted clearly on the order.
- Dark or high-contrast designs — recommend approving a proof before running a larger volume. Insufficient white ink coverage can cause the other side's print to show through.
- Volume — each job takes approximately 30 minutes to set up. Small orders are proportionally expensive in setup time. Always confirm that the order value meets the SEK 5,000 minimum.
Pricing
- Minimum order value: SEK 5,000 on a single quote or order — not split across deliveries.
- Always calculate manually using the quote template — use the Double-sided tab in Quote Template 2.0 (updated February 2026).
- Extra white ink: approximately SEK 85 per linear metre for the white layer between the two prints — factor this in for larger orders (can add up to SEK 3,500+ in white ink alone on larger runs).
- Extra production time: approximately 1–1.5 hours per order depending on volume — charge at SEK 395/hour.
- Machine time: approximately 1 hour per file to print.
- If the Quote Template should be used → use it for calculated price.
- Always explain to the customer why the price is higher.
Known quality risks — communicate proactively
- See-through effect — if the white ink layer between the two prints does not provide sufficient opacity, the other side's design will show through. This is a known risk for dark or high-contrast designs. Always recommend a proof approval before running a larger volume.
- Wrong side printed / mirroring missed — a real source of claims. If the mounting side (inside/outside glass) or frosted laminate is not specified on the order, production will follow what is written — and the result may not be what the customer expected. Always document mounting side and any laminate explicitly on the order.
- Production stop during machine issues — double-sided printing requires a functioning connection between the printer and the transparent material. If a machine or software issue arises, it is better to pause the order and inform the customer than to ship a substandard result.
Before quoting — mandatory
- Always confirm with production that the combination of material, design, and any laminate is possible before quoting.
- If any questions → write in CX Special Channel for internal support.
- If the need of two extra CX eyes → post the finalized quote in CX Special Channel.
Manufacturing
- Always add minimum +2 extra manufacturing days.
- Always add to Slack Special List.
When accepted
- Move to Special Flow and add comment under Prepress.
- Specify mounting side (inside/outside glass) and any frosted laminate explicitly in the Prepress comment.
- Include an extra note if the customer expects the same design as a previous order.
